So happy for you folk. Its tremendous what you are doing. You've been our insiration for 4 years. We're 71 yrs young, live in the Uk. Just about to buy land and agricultural buildings to build an off grid home with space for others to join us . A forest church/meditation walk and community growing and a meeting space. We are doing our best. So grateful for your inspiration. Ps we envy the avocados.. £1.50+ in the uk per avocado.

You know I love you, Derrick, and I agree with what you're trying to do on your land in Mexico. But I think somehow, and I could be wrong, that you are finding all these other things to do as opposed to working on your land with like-minded people. It seems to me that you and Miriam should be much, much further along with building your ecovillage or intentional community or conscious agora or whatever it is you want to call it. The land is basically uncleared and nothing has been built. So, instead of going off to Costa Rica and the UK and writing a memoir and performing music and all these other things that you're doing, up to and including these walk and talks, why aren't you clearing the property in Mexico and literally building the conscious agora? I'm not trying to be critical, Derrick. I really want to know why more progress has not been made, and I think it's because you are finding all these other things to do to keep from doing the extraordinarily hard work of clearing that land and putting up buildings and creating what you said you wanted to create six or seven or eight years ago. Please tell me why more progress has not been made and why you continue to do other things as opposed to building the conscious agora in Mexico.
What you and Miriam want to do is laudable, and I mean that. But that work is not going to get done with you walking around and giving talks and going to Costa Rica and writing a memoir and finding all these other excuses to not roll your sleeves up, get your hands filthy, and put your back and blood, sweat, and tears into building this conscious agora that you say you believe in. Please really ponder what I've written here before you answer. You could just tell me to fuck off and mind my own business, and I can certainly do that, but I'd like for you to ruminate on what I've written and give me a thoughtful answer and a truthful one.

We're working on the land on a weekly basis, with our current community members, and bringing in new members. Hoping to start building our home later this year.
I definitely need to get better at not debating morons. However, a certain amount of involvement and paying attention to the world is part of my work (which also pays my bills). Giving talks to spread these ideas, writing articles (which is what I get paid to do), and working on my passions are all part of my work, as is building The Conscious Agora.
What we are building is a community project. Not based on just the wants and needs of me and Miriam. We have 5 members who decide how things proceed and we have taken our time developing our conflict resolution agreements, decision making processes, entry and exit etc. This has involved 500 plus hours of meetings with 100s of people to get to where we are now (and with 5-7 more incoming households).
We are being careful not to rush into just moving onto the land without having the right people. You know me - I am not wealthy. This is my only shot so I cant afford to make mistakes by bringing in the wrong people or rushing into building things.
We are in the process of designing the masterplan for the homes as we bring in the final members for this current round. These things take time.
This is much different than just buying a piece of land and homesteading for one's own family or just as an individual. Doing it this way (which is the only way I can afford to) takes time.
But we've made lots of progress and are closer than we ever have been! We paid off the land in January after only 2 years and without any banks!
I know its probably different than how you might do it, or what you are used to, but this process has been working wonderfully for us. Sometimes we felt we were moving slow, other times too fast, but its worked out perfectly so far.
We will begin building the community center and homes by the end of this year and early 2026. I hope you keep up with the progress!
Thanks for the thoughtful reply, Derrick and for keeping me apprised as to what's going on with y'all. I can't think beyond each day because of my situation with Ron. His health has declined some as his congestive heart failure has gotten a little worse. I can't even think about making a move right now. I take one day at a time. I care for him full-time by myself and have for the last 3 1/2 years now, and I work part-time at a bookstore. I'm a program manager there, and I scout out Texas authors and invite them to the shop to read from their latest novel and sign books. I like what I do, and I'm good at it. I don't know where I'll end up when Ron passes away. My daughter wants me to move closer to her so I can see more of her and my beautiful granddaughters. I know I will never move to Mexico. Texas is my home. My kids and grandkids are here. I wish you and Miriam had decided to homestead somewhere outside of Houston in a rural area. Then, once I was widowed, I could look into joining a community with y'all. Right now I'm doing well to get out of bed in the morning and put one foot in front of the other, and I have to do that because Ron depends on me. I miss you, and I do follow you as much as I can. I don't have a lot of time to spend online with caregiving and working, too.

I enjoy this format of walk and talk in nature. Very calming, I think people are just missing being out in nature so much abs that's what induce the insanity and people seeming losing their humanity.
Most of them has completely lost their connection to earth, to the mother of all life here - so if course they loose their humanity and sanity.
I still have a lot of hope though, and people not at all interested in looking beyond the superficial narratives are open to at least entertain the idea of something that would seem radical just not to long ago.
To add as well I've been pulled into arguing on Twitter and I sense that the platform itself is pulling out my shadow side more often than not. I have a completely different energy on other non-mainstream platform or here on substack.
So I need to take a step back and breath, be in nature and let go of that pull to engage in the vacuum of insanity that is twitter/x for awhile.

Derrick, find peace on your beautiful land. Plant seeds on Twitter. Don’t try to pull weeds. I continually make that mistake too. Arguing with people who cant explain their position and won’t consider another perspective.
Make your case, preach peace and tolerance then move on. Build your alternative system and the right people will come to you. Leave the rest to find their own way. You’re in a reality that many can’t see.

Derrick, you're a beautiful heart and mind. There are so many idiotic people and that's why we're in the fix we're in. I have full confidence humanity will make it but just by the skin of our nose because there are so many ignorant people, the numbers overpower the intelligent people, people who want things to make sense. So much casual dismissiveness about lives, people's lives. You are so right when you say, when you wish it upon others, it will come back at you. And that means nobody can live in a peaceful world with this kind of thinking. Nobody is safe unless we make sense and cherish life. I'm against blocking Derrick because free speech is fundamental to changing the paradigm. Just learn to ignore duffuses, let them talk but you don't have to respond. To close off someone's expression keeps us in the same paradigm and like you say, it boomerangs back to hit you. We need to live in a world of free speech, it is incredibly fundamental, and this will have the affect of freeing us all because information will be accessible to all.
