If its done right yes. And it depends on the person. Some thrive as vegans, some thrive strictly carnivore. Most fall somewhere in the middle. The important part is that one consumes real food that works for him or her.
I respect the views presented here, and I admire your work, Derrick, but I'm not sure if Sarina is correct in claiming that a vegan diet is naturally healthier than a diet with animal fats. Of course it depends on the purity and how the food is processed, but there is compelling evidence that the healthiest cultures throughout history ate generous amounts of meat, especially animal organs. Are you familiar with the work of Dr. Tom Cowan?
"Organ meats are a foundational food for many of the healthiest indigenous peoples throughout the world, who typically enjoy longer lifespans and lower instances of heart disease. One of only several animal-based sources of omega-3 linolenic acid, organ meats help with the production of important prostaglandins necessary for cell function, metabolic function, heart health, skeletal health, liver function, and prevention of inflammation." - Dr Cowan.
It's possible to make the case for veganism on ethical/ philosophical grounds, but as far as health, it's more challenging.
This is probably going to sound sarcastic but i genuinely don't mean it that way... do vegans think plants don't have feelings? I hear lost of talk about not exploiting or harming animals but why is the harming of plants never considered? Plants are alive and i also believe there is a lot of fairly recent evidence that plants have feelings (even possibly consciousness to a degree). They respond to external input. There's now lots of evidence they can communicate with each other. Obviously thats something very different than we can really understand but it doesn't mean they can't experience pain imo.
Also, I have personally watched numerous peoples health be greatly improved (including my own) by changing their diets from no longer eating animal byproducts from the store and instead only eating animal byproducts from grass/pasture based local farms that utilize regenerative, rotational, deep bedding practices. From my experience you simply can't get this quality from any box store regardless of the label which leads me to question the legitimacy of any comparison someone does of a vegan vs non-vegan diet.
But all that being said I have nothing against vegans and I also do agree it is possible to be healthy on a plant only diet, I just personally think there is no way to live and avoid causing harm. Even you eat only plants, you physically can't plant a garden without killing animals (even if those animals are microscopic). The very act of working or digging in the soil is going to cause harm to at least some small organisms who live there. Even notill, mulching, composting ext.. everything you do in the world is going to cause harm to something. Its simply the reality of nature. Maybe you can avoid causing harm to a pig or a cow but walk around in your yard and tell me you didn't sqaush a worm at some point? Why is that worm less important than a pig a cow?
Hopefully this doesn't come off as closed minded or overly critical. I certainly don't mean to be that way. Just the thoughts and questions that come to mind when I think about this topic.
Just FYI, Gnosticism and Satanism are not the same thing.
Here's a post I made the other day which applies to your comments:
Just as calling everything racist has caused actual racism to be ignored by lots of people, calling everything satanic weakens the impact and understanding of actual Satanism.
Satanism is real. And there are various schools of thoughts within that broad category. Some are simply atheists following the left hand path. Others actually believe they worship a being named Satan, or Lucifer.
Satanism is not everything you dislike. Words have meaning. You don't help by diluting the meaning of them by applying them to everything you hate.
Gnosticism opposes the god the O.T. Google Al backs me up:
"Yes, Gnosticism generally opposes and rejects the God of the Old Testament, viewing him as a flawed and malevolent creator, not the true, supreme God. Gnostic beliefs hold that this inferior "Demiurge" trapped humanity in the material world, which Gnostics considered evil."
As do multiple theologians than I've talked with. The Hebrew word 'satan' means opposer. And multiple popes.
The truth is that no one knows the truth about what should or shouldn't be in the bible (and whether Jesus would approve). There were many sects of Christianity before Constantine (a Pagan Roman emperor) fell in love with Christianity. It was Constantine who sought to take all these sects and to make one religion with one doctrine, via the Council of Nicaea. Which, honestly, we will never truly know if what the Council arrived at was something Jesus would have fully approved of. Prior to this, Christians were subject to persecution and trauma, which probably shaped some beliefs and led to heresy-phobia and Christians being hard on other Christians, persecuting their own for "wrong think" (including even Gnostics who believed in Jesus). And the judging of peaceful Gnostics/Cathars and their holocaust arose out of this persecution against "wrong think."
In the Book of Galatians (Paul's letter to the Galatians), it says Jesus died to free us from the "curse" of the law (the Jewish law) and Jesus was persecuted himself for going again Sabbath and Jewish customs. So, yes, there were some early Christians and later Gnostics who felt Jesus would have never wanted the old testament included with his teaching.
Gnosticism rose in popularity because people saw the Church as corrupt. If the Church wasn't corrupt and so focused on persecuting others, this might not have happened. If I saw what I thought was God was acting like Hitler, I might doubt he was God, right? Or might start seeing that this "God's" opposition was actually the good guy, bringing Gnosis to help save us. So, hence, the snake of Eden and Lucifer (angel of Light) become savior figures for some Gnostics. But this doesn't mean that Jesus would see them as evil or today's meaning of satanist (something entirely different). You also have to remember that Christians tortured confessions out of those they deemed as heretics, getting them to confess all sorts of thing. We still see some of these confessions given validity under tales that Templars did blasphemous thing when no one will ever truly know because they were tortured into confessing those things (which if you recant a confession, you get burned--like many did).
The truth is that many Gnostics and Cathars were peaceful, non-violent, and extremely anti-materialistic (in contrast, satanism today is more associated with materialism). I'm sure their intentions with regard to veganism weren't evil or connected to demon-summoning rituals. The Cathars were healers and baptizers (something Jesus and his disciples practiced). Yet, these groups were almost completely wiped out in horrific fashion. So much death due to heresy-phobia and later witch-phobia.
The problem with Christianity today (and it has nothing to do with Jesus) is that it carries this trauma and it carries the remnants of heresy phobia and witch-phobia. This is an aspect of trauma and humanity. Its not who or what Jesus was about. Gnostics were not "Satanic" how today we view satanism. They viewed Lucifer as bringing enlightenment not indulging them in fleshly desires or child sacrifice, etc.
your loss. But that's why I addressed the people like you early on because I knew there'd be ridiculous comments like yours. I encourage you to listen to the full interview and you might learn something.
I may know a lot more than you suspect. But go ahead. Have a mini-tantrum. It is your site and I almost never frequent it for obvious reasons.
If a point cannot be made in two minutes, it is not worth waiting for.
You may not value your time as much as I value mine. I know many Vegans they are mostly not all right-in-the-head. No doubt because they are not right in the body.
Your mind is obviously already closed. You say you don't frequent my site, which is great. But I almost never talk about veganism here. In fact, your comments are one of the reasons why I don't talk about my veganism often. However, for me, the fight for liberation does not end with humans.
Maddening as it is, I once again, having finished a lengthy and, I hope, cogent and intelligent replay, press the wrong keys and my post disappears. I cannot recreate it now as time really is of the essence. I was trying to respond to your now more polite and reasonable reply with one of my own.
Perhaps later.
I will repeat one part of what I said but it must now stand alone. Cows are no more persons than Corporations are persons. Though I like cows and despise corporations. Cows are animals. People are, or used to be, humans. The difference is one of kind not quantity of some indefinable something.
For now, feeble though it may seem , to some, that will have to stand alone.
Your gratuitous rhetoric is all too revealing in the person you believe yourself to be. No one lives above another, save mentally, having it been deeply grounded into their ‘cultish’ belief system of superiority — of which, indeed, your judgmental and assuming ways — have bared you to be.
Let me assure you, ‘kind sir’ — my sincerity is not fleeting. I rise above no other; peacefully living through the darkness being poured into this life — seeking only to rise above it, moving all of humanity to it’s highest potential. As well, ‘kind sir’ — Not a cultist will I ever be, I am a follower of Christ, none other. You would do yourself well, to find Him. Godspeed ✞🕊
this video reminds me of going thru changes over diet and concluding moderation is best and not everyone thrives on the same diet. attitude affects our health very much. and yes, covid disappointment, personally with the hippies, has been a profound learning experience.
By the way, plants are alive and conscious too. You are still eating something alive. I cried over my food one time when I was plant based, thinking what will I eat? Must just live off of breath, sun, air?
Plants have consciousness too. Do not forget you are still ingesting something alive. 🙏🏻
Very interesting conversation here. I came here with an open mind, heart and tons of curiosity. Just from reading the title.
As I keep saying I just don’t know many healthy vegans/vegetarians. I’m sorry. I want to keep searching and be proven wrong. I thought was a sick joke for me to heal my body and go back to eating animal protein. I rather not eat animal protein and fats but it’s how I thrive on every level spiritually, emotionally, physically, mentally, energetically. Are we all the same?
no. Bio- individuality must be recognized.
I help guide others to find what is right for them, not tell him this is the way to eat. There is NO correct diet for anyone. Now are there some guidelines to follow for us all? Yes, I believe so- like eating whole foods, organic, quality, local, regional, regenerative, eating with the seasons, variety, and some more.
I have been in the holistic health and wellness industry personally and as a profession for over 20 years. I have studied food all my life, diets. Different ways to eat. Studied blood type eating which mine says I should eat vegetarian. There is no rhyme and reason to this - eating for your blood type. Does not recognize bio-individuality. Ayurveda didn’t either. Putting labels on people or putting them into boxes does not recognize bio-individuality. Labeling yourself vegan, vegetarian, is the same to me as saying you are a democrat or republican. We are more than these labels, these categories, these boxes. Sad I would not be able to come to your event, I would get sick. This is for freedom loving vegans only it seems. Sad to me. Excluding people for their choice in diet? I see you collaborate often with John Bush- I see I resonate more with him on this topic.
And I go to conferences and studies all the time and by myself- all over the world. I love connecting with people in person and meeting new people, finding common ground with all people.
Absolutely love this is a sober event and family friendly. Makes me very happy to hear.
Blood sugar balance is important for most people today, and with vegan diet- that isn’t easy to control. Plants do not easily give up nutrients, plant protein is not easily digested or absorbed for many.
I believe in bio- individuality and balance.
Now I now someone born vegan and she is as so ill all her life, she is so mad at her parents and now she eats omnivore and thrives. A familiar story I hear often.
I have experimented with myself for over 20 years-And saw my clients also have their own experiences. And have seen my fellow colleagues and instructors. Nutritional deficiencies can wreak havoc on the body. And I have seen more people suffer on plant based diets than thrive. I do believe a quality carnivore based diet or quality plant based can have their benefits, their time, place reason and season. But for long term? I believe balance is key.
I have much to say here. But bio-individuality and balance are key for each of us. All these labels, boxes we ourselves into are more harmful than helpful.
As an Ayurvedic Practitioner, Yoga/Meditation Instructor, Functional Nutritional Therapist, Autoimmune Health Coach, Bodyworker/Massage Therapist, and Medical Esthetician I can say bio-individuality must be recognized here. There is NO diet or way to eat that is the WAY. We all must find our own.
I honestly do not know many who are healthy- emotionally, spiritually, physically, mentally in a vegan or vegetarian diet. I’m sorry but it’s true.
I do believe it does exist, but very little.
I am happy to hear you two say you are very healthy with your vegan labels. I find this to be very rare. Very.
Trust me I rather not eat animal protein
but when I went full vegetarian, I began to completely fall apart. And know one knew why. I suffered from 29-36 years old. Now I am in my 40s and I thrive like I never did before eating balanced, organic, local, whole foods, cooking everything at home for 98% of time, eating a balanced high animal protein and healthy fats, healthy carbs. I didn’t even now now to cook meats until I got severely ill.
Now I eat liver and thrive. I love animals but I want to be healthy as well. I wish I didn’t have to eat them to thrive. But it’s a truth I had to face. For myself.
I reversed severe chronic pain, fatigue, and even lupus with my diet.
I had to hit a rock bottom almost death to rise back up again. I had no idea my diet was part of killing me.
I was the healthiest eater I knew. Eating whole foods, plant based, using Ayurvedic principles, eating with seasons, organic, no processed foods- I began to got into early menopause at 29! I became skin and bones. Rashes all over my body, severe anxiety, depression came in- and chronic debilitating pain took over my whole body-as all my joints became to pop crack, inflame, subluxation would occur. especially in my spine and ribs. I could barely breathe without pain or even receive a hug without severe pain.
By the way tofu is very processed. It is not a whole food.
Do you know of Lierre Keith?
Her book the Vegetarian Myth?
Natasha Campbell McBrides work ?
The gut and brain axis?
The enteric nervous system in the gut?
How Ayurveda says all dis-ease begins in the gut?
Weston Prices work?
Are you aware of blood sugar balancing?
Anyway, thank you for this conversation. I am truly inspired and still willing to be open to hear things like this. I will keep an open mind- and continue to be curious. I don’t know everything and probably never will- but I will continue to keep learning and listening everyday.
I just feel this festival might as well be called a democrat or republican festival. And I am not either one of those labels. Or a carnivore or omnivore, or a Christian, Buddhist, Pitta, Vata, anarchist, not even a yogi. I am me, is am human, and unique. There is no one like me. I will never put myself in a box or label. I break those boxes.
Thanks again, appreciate the conversation. I will keep searching and being curious to those who label themselves vegan:vegetarian. 🙏🏻
Today I am happier, free of autoimmune disease, pain free, and thriving more than I ever did my whole life. Food has been my medicine and food has been my poison.
I take no supplements, rarely- depends if I am doing a cleanse- or something- my reason, season etc.
I don’t need any supplements if I am eating a nutrient dense diet and my digestive system is functioning properly.
Most people talk about what to eat but what about proper, optimal digestive function?
If this is compromised , it doesn’t matter what we eat- how healthy, we may be suffering. Proper, functional digestion is just as important as what we eat- even more so.
I’ve been vegan for 30+ years, having started out vegetarian at a very young age. As well, visits to conventional medicine are decades apart. My blood work has been stellar.
A little introduction: Born a healer — a ‘rescuer’ of the downtrodden, to any in need. Anyone, any animal, anything that was hurting, I tried to make it stop. From my earliest of memories, with some funny stories along the way. As, to the story of when I began questioning what was on my plate…
My first of rescues was an awful sight. We lived next to a farmer who ‘processed’ his chickens. Invited by his children to ‘come see’ — we all stood at the fence wide eyed, not understanding what was about to unfold. I was just 7 years old. I stood paralyzed in agony and despair as they were hung upside down, neck stretched (pulled down) and ‘off with the head’ - all of them running around frantically ‘screaming’ — even running AFTER their heads were removed. I feel ill just recollecting, I digress.
Through my tears I pleaded with them to stop. Plea after plea after plea, the farmer finally turned toward me, giving me a silent half face look, shadowed by the sun. He almost looked amused by my desperation; yet contemplative of what he was doing. Nobody stopped the pain. I was little, this was bigger than me — but I was going to DO SOMETHING. This one chicken, near half my size, was running in circles. When the ‘evil farmer’ was dunking the victims in a boiling hot kettle — I ran as fast as I could toward the frantic chicken, swooped him into my arms and ran into the corn field. I was going to save them, even if just one.
I cried my heart out that night, exhausted from the run, emotionally devastated. I’ll never forget the shadowed tall farmer standing in front of me blocking the sun… blocking my way to safety for the chicken I held tight in my arms, promising to save him. I failed — but at least — I tried.
I hold many stories throughout my childhood, and beyond, of rescues along the way, it may make a good read one day. Maybe it would encourage the ‘even if just one’ mentality. If we can save just one, it will have all been worth it, at least for me.
To anyone questioning the health of veganism… look to the many of God’s creatures who thrive on vegetation, muscular beyond those consuming their prey. ‘Recycled Protein’ is what you’re getting. Clearly, the vast gardens of the world are, indeed, the gardens of life. We must fight to preserve what the darkness is trying to destroy.
May we all find our way to kindness, love, and compassion for all of humanity. Walk in the light of the Lord — vehemently, relentlessly, standing firm against this darkness. Together, we win. May the Wrath of God be our strength, His Wisdom our guide. Godspeed ✞🕊
Thanks for hosting this informative and empowering interview, and to Sarina for sharing her personal journey.
A little bit of history . . .
I grew up in a family that ate every think from beef to Italian sausage filled with pork and God knows what else. My parents were old school immigrants who believed that eating a sirloin steak or a roast beef on Sundays was a sign of abundance and prosperity.
I’ve been eating a whole food plant-based diet for more than 25 years and I must say that I’m starting to miss animal products. More specifically, I miss:
The nitrates, the red dyes, the antibiotics, the growth hormones, the herbicides, the pesticides, the mRNA injected beef, pork, and poultry. I also miss the insulin-like growth factor one (IGF1), the inflammation, the saturated fat, and the complete lack of fiber. I also miss the mystery of not knowing where beef is raised, produced, and processed given the elimination of “COOL” – Country of Origin Labeling regulations.
This may sound kinda weird, but lately I’ve been feeling a bit left out knowing that I’m not part of the global army of carnivores that supports the TORTURE AND SLAUGHTER of 92.2 BILLION FARM ANIMALS THAT ARE KILLED ANNUALLY. That’s 92 billion with a “b.”
BTW - I also want to thank you for your tremendous research. “The Pyramid of Power” is off the charts.
I'm sorry to ask about your blood type, that probably sounds creepy but I'm sure you've heard of eating for your specific blood type. Where A's, B's & AB's generally do well on a plant based diet. Although O's are more prominent in the Hispanic race because of our indigenous roots.
If you don’t take B12, it’s best to test your homocysteine levels on occasion. If homocysteine is too high you’re at risk for cardiovascular and brain problems. I’ve been vegan since 1973…long before mainstream. So long ago I can’t even remember how it happened. BTW, I like your last name. 😊
If its done right yes. And it depends on the person. Some thrive as vegans, some thrive strictly carnivore. Most fall somewhere in the middle. The important part is that one consumes real food that works for him or her.

As always, thanks for sharing!
How many gnostic (ie, Satanic) religions are vegan? A lot
Cathars
Zoroastrians...Haha, just walked in the door, all I can think of top of my head. I had a list of about 6. And if not vegan, som variation thereof.
I also found it a little coincidental than Cain offered plants for a sacrifice, while Abel offered meat🤔
Just FYI, Gnosticism and Satanism are not the same thing.
Here's a post I made the other day which applies to your comments:
Just as calling everything racist has caused actual racism to be ignored by lots of people, calling everything satanic weakens the impact and understanding of actual Satanism.

"Gnosticism opposes the god the O.T. "
Ok, but that still has nothing to do with Satanism. The "god" of the OT is definitely evil, but they don't call him Satan.
Evil doesn't inherently mean Satan. And while the Hebrew meaning of Satan is what you say it is, that is still not "Satanic".
My original comment still applies. Words have meaning. Try not to dilute them by throwing them around haphazardly.

Godspeed ✞🕊
Derrick,
Greetings!
Peace, good health, and kind regards.
John

For God's sake... I am so sick of people saying excited. It's sickening. Where is creativity
Uh...no...just no!
I would like to know your blood type as well as hers. Just wondering. 🙂
And do either of you take supplements for b12?
I don't. I just eat a diverse whole foods plant based diet. I take a few other supplements like omega-3.
